Why Dr. Compean Became a Dentist

For Dr. Compean, dentistry is both an art and a science. He has always been drawn to the creativity involved in restoring and enhancing his patients’ smiles. Improving people’s confidence through their oral health is something he finds deeply rewarding, and he can’t imagine pursuing any other career.

Education and Training

Dr. Compean’s academic journey began at Santa Monica College, followed by UCLA, before he earned his dental degree at USC’s School of Dentistry. He has continuously pursued additional training to stay at the forefront of dental care, including completing specialized courses in dental implants at Loma Linda University and advancing his skills in Invisalign treatments. As a committed lifelong learner, Dr. Compean completes over 50 continuing education units every two years to ensure his clinical techniques remain cutting-edge. He is also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and serves as an assistant clinical professor at Western University of Health Sciences in Dentistry.

Personal Interests

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Compean leads an active lifestyle. He and his wife, whom he’s been married to for 36 years, enjoy spending time with their five children. Dr. Compean is an avid golfer, and he enjoys skiing with his family at Mammoth and fly fishing in the Sierras. He is also an enthusiastic hiker, having successfully hiked to the top of Mt. Whitney in just one day—a 22-mile round trip with a 6,000-foot elevation gain. His adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors are as present in his personal life as they are in his professional life, where he constantly strives for excellence and new challenges.
